BACKGROUND, EDUCATION, AND PRACTICE

Areas of Practice:  Administrative Law, Healthcare Law, Mental Health Professional Practice Compliance, Occupational License Defense; HIPAA and Privacy and Security Law Compliance

Amanda is Board Certified in Administrative Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) and serves on the TBLS Administrative Law Exam Commission.

Ms. Ellis advises licensed providers on operational and regulatory matters related to their practices, including licensing and health care privacy law compliance. She has represented various entities and individuals at the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) and before other agencies, including the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, Texas Medical Board, Texas Board of of Nursing, Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors Program, Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council’s Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional Counselors, Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists, and Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Amanda is a former President of the Board of the Administrative Law Section and is a member of the Health Law Section of the Austin Bar Association. She was appointed to the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners from 2017 - 2020. 

She frequently speaks before professional organizations, state agencies and industry groups regarding administrative and health law issues, including professional health care licensing and enforcement defense and federal and state privacy law compliance.

Ms. Ellis grew up in Tyler, Texas.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Spanish from Austin College in 1991, her Master’s in Education from Texas Tech University in 2001 and her law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2005. 

Her previous community involvement has included serving as a Trustee of the Zach Scott Theatre Board, a Board member for Camp Fire Central Texas and as a member of the Junior League of Austin.
