BACKGROUND, EDUCATION, AND PRACTICE
Kenda Brashear Dalrymple is the Managing Partner of Dalrymple, Shellhorse, Ellis & Diamond, L.L.P. (DSED) and in that role, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm. Mrs. Dalrymple received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Baylor University and her law degree from Baylor University School of Law. She began her legal career at Davis & Davis, P.C. and spent nearly ten years practicing insurance defense and administrative law.
When she moved her practice to Brown & Carls, L.L.P. in 2001, she had no idea that the firm would become her home for over two decades. As partners arrived and left, Brown & Carls, L.L.P. turned into Carls, McDonald & Dalrymple, L.L.P. and finally evolved into the current firm, which remains one of the oldest woman-owned law firms in Austin.
The focus of her practice is defending medical and mental health professionals in licensing board complaint cases and she has represented hundreds of physicians, nurses, psychologists, mental health counselors, pharmacists, and other licensed professionals in complaint cases. She also advises and consults with corporate and individual healthcare clients on matters related to risk management, operations, regulatory compliance, and professional ethics.
Mr. Dalrymple is an appointed member of the American Psychological Association Board of Directors Standing Hearing Panel for Ethics Complaints (reappointed for 2021 – 2025). She is the “Ask the Attorney” Liaison for members of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and an Associate Member of TAMFT. Recently, Mrs. Dalrymple contributed two chapters to the book, “Building a Private Counseling Practice: Nuts and Bolts of Running an Ethical and Profitable Business,” which was edited by three of her heroes, Dr. Stephen Jennings and Dr. Lynn Jennings and Dr. Janet Hicks.
As the daughter of educators, Mrs. Dalrymple enjoys teaching professional development trainings in the areas of professional ethics, confidentiality of records, HIPAA, responding to subpoenas and other legal demands, practice administration, risk management for medical and mental health professionals, and how not to become one of her licensing board complaint clients. She is highly sought after as an invited speaker to professional and educational conferences and she is particularly proud of the fact that no one has ever died of boredom during any of her presentations.
